Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals (Hairdressing)

 

Based on the national occupational standards for hairdressing, this qualification includes all the required elements to work effectively as a junior hairstylist.

 

The units covered are as follows:

  • Consultation
  • Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
  • Cut hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks
  • Style and finish hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks
  • Colour and lighten hair using a range of techniques
  • Hair extension services

 

Throughout this qualification, students will develop their knowledge and understanding of the relevant anatomy, physiology and health and safety. Students will also develop their communication, customer service and commercial skills.

VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Advanced and Creative Hairdressing

 

A more advanced course based on the national occupational standards for hairdressing, this level 3 qualification includes all the required elements to work effectively as a hairstylist.

 

The units covered are as follows:

  • Provide client consultation services
  • Advanced and creative cutting services
  • Creative fashion styling and finishing services
  • Provide smoothing and strengthening services
  • Advanced and creative colour services
  • Use fashion forward trends in hair, creative and precision techniques to create a collection of hairstyle looks

 

Throughout this qualification, students will build their knowledge and understanding of the relevant anatomy, physiology and health and safety. Students will also develop and improve their communication, customer service, commercial skills, problem-solving and research skills.

What could a hairdressing qualification lead to?

Students who achieve this hairdressing qualification are eligible to become a State Registered Graduate Hairdresser with the Hair Council. As a hairstylist, students could progress directly into employment in a variety of contexts which include:

  • Commercial hairdressing salon
  • Business owner
  • Self-employment
  • Television, film, theatre and media
  • Personal/Celebrity Stylist
  • Cruise Liners

Students could also progress with further qualifications and become an Assessor or a Teacher/Lecturer.
